​Due to the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, the City of Coon Rapids has made the difficult decision to cancel the 2020 Coon Rapids 4th of July Community Celebration. The public health recommendations surrounding large gatherings, combined with the safety of the public, vendors, organizers, volunteers and City staff has led to the decision of canceling the event. The 2020 event will not be rescheduled; instead the public is invited to mark their calendars for the 2021 event which will take place July 2-4. Being voted one of the best fireworks shows in the Twin Cities, the Coon Rapids 4th of July Community Celebration takes place July 2-4 each year, on the grounds of Boulevard Plaza, located at 11000 Crooked Lake Blvd. The event features a parade, car show, live music, games, rides, bingo, Coon Rapids Firecracker 10k, 5K & Kids Fun Run and outstanding fireworks. The event is sponsored by the Coon Rapids Community Strength Foundation, the Coon Rapids North Star Lions Club and the Coon Rapids Fire Social Group. On behalf of the entire group of individuals that put in hundreds of hours to organize this fantastic community event, we thank the public for their continued support and look forward to a great event next year!

Parking: Race parking will be at Anoka Ramsey Community College which is a short walk from the Coon Rapids Ice Center.

Details: The event, rain or shine, will start at the Coon Rapids Ice Center. The route will be a combination of Coon Rapids residential roads and park paths.  The 5k encompasses trails starting on 109th, running through Dahlia and Riverview Parks, by Mississippi Elementary School and ending back at the Coon Rapids Ice Center.  See the course map for specific 5k and 10k routes.

Note: In case of severe weather, the race will be called as early as possible on race day. No refunds will be issued due to cancellation from severe weather.

5k runners/walkers will have 1 hour 15 minutes to finish the course.  All 10k runners will have 1 hour and 30 minutes to complete the course.  Anyone exceeding the time cut-off is encouraged to finish the run; however, the remainder of their event may be unsupported and may not receive a finisher's medal if the finish line has been cleared.


After race snack and beverage will be provided at the finish line.

Registration price for the 5k and 10k includes four (4) free games of Bingo at the Firefighter Bingo Tent, beer or pop ticket, finisher's medal, t-shirt and more!

Additional prizes for top male and female in the 5k, top male and female in the 10k and best patriotic costume.

The Kid's Sparkler Dash will immediately follow the awards ceremony.  The route is in a closed off parking area of the Coon Rapids Ice Center.  It will use the same finish line as the 5k and 10k runs.  The Kids Sparkler Dash is open to kids ages 3-8.  For the purpose of the waiver, all participants of the Kid's Sparkler Dash must be registered.


All proceeds from the race are distributed back into various organizations wihin the community to help build a happier, healthier and more enjoyable community to live in.

After your run, please stay for other Coon Rapids Firefighters and Carnival events and attractions.  The Lions breakfast, Firefighter Bingo and Pulltabs, vendors, rides and amusements by Gopher State Expositions and more!
