Coon Rapids Community Strength Foundation Community Grant Program Overview
Background: The Coon Rapids Community Strength Foundation is a community based organization focused on supporting the quality of life in Coon Rapids. The foundation is represented by community service club representatives, charitable gaming organizations, and community members.
Purpose: The Coon Rapids Community Strength Foundation has funding available to assist non-profit and community civic organizations that supports and promotes Coon Rapids through civic celebrations, the arts, and healthy community building events and activities.
Applicants receiving Community Strength grant funding must demonstrate the value of their event, or activity in meeting the purpose of the program.
Qualifying Applicants:
Qualifying applicants can be individuals, non-profit organizations, or recognized local civic groups.
Eligible Expenses:
The Community Strength grant funds may be used only for promoting or implementing an event or activity/activities approved by the Community Foundation Board. Ineligible expenses will include: alcohol/tobacco, staffing or personnel, or contractual admin support.
Maximum Grant amount:
The maximum grant request will be $5,000 and an organization may only be awarded one grant/per year. Annual events that will solicit funding from the Community Strength Foundation will be expected to make a formal request each year.
Special Grants:
The Community Strength Foundation may approve funding for a project or activity that it believes is important for the community without a formal grant request from the organizing body. The Foundation Board may approve a funding amount higher than the maximum grant amount, if it supports an important community event. The proceeds must still be used for only eligible activities.
Timeline:
Grant applications and requests for funding will be reviewed at the Foundation Board of Director’s monthly meetings. Incomplete applications will be returned for further development. Applicants will be expected to submit applications/revisions at least ten (10) business days prior to that month’s meeting.
Note: All grant recipients must gain approval for the event or activity through the appropriate local approving bodies, including permits and other local and state regulations that might apply.
In addition, grant recipients may be required to provide proof of liability insurance and tax identification numbers prior to grant funding & allocation.
Community Strength Grant Application Guidelines
1. All events / activities / projects funded must be held in Coon Rapids..
2. The maximum grant funding available for any single event / activity is $5,000. Events are
encouraged to use other funding sources as well.
3. Advertising and promotion activities may take place in areas outside of Coon Rapids and surrounding region.
Advertising, marketing and promotional activities that promotes Coon Rapids to out of town visitors and guests is
strongly desired.
4. No event, activity, or conference receiving Community Strength Foundation grant funding may have as its purpose
the promotion of political candidates, or political parties, religious organizations, or religious affiliations. Funding for
events or activities benefiting individuals will not be considered eligible.
5. Any event, activity, or conference receiving grant funding must include and identify the Community Strength
Foundation in its advertising, marketing and promotional materials.
6. Grant funding recipients will be required to submit a post-event summary, expense receipts, and an evaluation form
after the conclusion of the event, activity, or conference funded. Any unused grant funds will be returned to the
Foundation for other purposes. Failure to complete these post-event activities may affect future grant funding
opportunities. Failure to return any unused funds will result in the requesting individual/organization becoming
ineligible for future funding. The Community Strength Foundation will provide the event summary and evaluation
materials.

- Site / venue / facility rental fees
- Artist(s) fees for performance
- Artist(s) related travel expenses
- Bid fees to host a conference, or event

- Administrative expenses (e.g., stationery, letterhead, postage, telephone, etc)
- Office equipment / lease / office capital improvements / office overhead costs
- Staffing / personnel / operating costs associated with planning & staging event
